Back to the Basics

The Wellness industry is toxic, vegan culture is a fad, so what’s this all about?

At the end of the day, we just believe in doing our best to make everyone happy and healed. We get it, we can’t do it alone and, to be honest, not all of it is our place..

But what we DO want to do is our best… with everything. Maybe we only sell candles and occult items, but we can do everything in our power to make sure it’s done well, without harm, and in a way that ultimately benefits the communities that we love and are a part of.

Define Vegan:

Veganism is a philosophy, not a set of diet rules. It is about believing in compassion and the idea that all living being have the right to live free of exploitation, and the infliction of unnecessary pain and death. Many people forget that this includes freeing human beings too.

It’s all Balance

The wellness industry, close sister to the diet industry, will spend all day exclaiming “vegan”, “cruelty free”, and “all natural”, promising happiness and wellness and selling you snake oil, often at the price of your mental and physical health. The spirituality that comes from white lady yoga pants and green smoothies is superficial and, in the long run, they erode your connection to yourself and the spiritual. So, given all of that, why vegan soy candle natural crystal blah blah?

Yep, I get it. It’s hard to separate the influencer-speak from the movements that they stole from. They use buzz words to make themselves look good, but they typically have very little idea what they mean.

We choose everything for a specific reason- wild crafted herbs and flowers, plant based waxes that are ethically and sustainably sourced, ethnically sourced crystals and stones, essential oils that are pet friendly and sustainable. We choose these things because they align with what we believe. Because veganism is a philosophy of reducing and eliminating harm, not about smoothie bowls or pilates.

The Wellness Industry hijacked compassion-based movements and we are trying to take them back.

Why?

Vegan: Simply put, because we care about the impact that our actions have on the environment and our animal friends.

Palm Wax Free: We looked into eco-friendly and cruelty free palm waxes, including ones that are RSPO certified. Palm wax has resulted in ecological destuction on catastrophic levels. The conclusion we came to was that cruelty free palm wax just simply doesn’t exist and we didn’t feel comfortable using it.

Paraffin Free: The SPCA has named paraffin, specifically as it’s burned in candles, as a toxin to pets which should always be avoided. Animals can react to many things that we, as humans, don’t think about because it’s safe for us or because we don’t know that it isn’t safe for us.

Why?

We’re picky about our fragrances: Synthetic fragrance oils, which are often petroleum based, tend to have adverse effects on human health, pet health, aquatic life, and the environment. They contain harmful VOCs (even ones marked as organic) that can cause a variety of health issues such as migraine headaches, allergic reactions, asthma attacks, and respiratory problems. (sources). We read every safety report for every fragrance, even essential oils.
